As we go about living our daily life, we seldom stop to ponder upon our purpose, our true reason for being on this planet.
Yes, the true believers come to know why; they find their target and strive to reach it, but many questions come to mind: How can we determine exactly what should be the target? Which priority should we place first? How can we worship Allah (SWT) to the best of our God given ability?
The truth is there are different aspects which should be addressed faithfully in order to be able to feel nearly as whole as Allah Almighty allowed us to be on this Earth.
To start with, there is the relationship between your creator (Allah) and yourself, second there’s the relationship between you and yourself, and then there is of course the relationship between you and others.
To be contented with ourselves and retain a sense of completeness that will allow us to be at ease and even arrive at acquiring worldly happiness, we should find an approach with which we can build a sense of balance between the three mentioned relationships.
To achieve this equilibrium, one should understand the difference between worship in terms of prayers, almsgiving, fasting, etc…and the other sense of it where we find ourselves applying what we have merited from those practices.
We have to ask ourselves: Is the goal in fact to pray 5 times a day for the mere routine of it? Or is it a means to enhance our lifestyle in such a way that we can attain elevated ranks and distinctive qualities resulting in prominent individuals?
Ever since the Quran was revealed and we have been blessed with the gift of Islam, we have ceaselessly been learning new benefits to worship practices we have previously been doing purely out of faith.
Due to recently discovered scientific facts, we have the prospect of truly grasping the meaning of these practices and absolutely understand that they do not in anyway add anything to Allah’s might or graciousness, rather they exist to complement and restore the incessant faults of our human nature.
Allah is not in need of us, nor of our worship, not of our prayers, nor of our charity,… We are in need of those. Once we fully apprehend that, we realize that these rituals guide us and enlighten us.
The ongoing learning that we have been blessed with is very much significant to fortify the fact that Islam is truly the religion for all times.
When we understand this, we come to realize that our relationship with Allah (SWT) is what leads us to the happiness we all seek. If the essential forms of worship in which we are required to fulfill were applied correctly, then we are certain to achieve the balance our body and soul need to thrive.
